Some applications require additional logic conntrol with a machine safety system, for example, there may be several safety devices which require monitoring at the same time. SICK Flexisoft (registered) is a safety controller that has the ability to monitor safety inputs from light curtains, proximity switches, interlocks etc.

The Flexisoft configuration software allows the engineer to build a function block type logic which can control when safety outputs are enabled.The SICK Flexisoft controller communicates on a bus type connector to a series of input/output modules like a conventional PLC system.

The Flexisoft configuration software can provide the customer a means of controlling a safety system on a machine but also can be used control the basic machine functions. This can be substituted for a standard PLC in some cases, as all the functionality is built in to the controller.
